Dark Poet

Dark Poet so unobtrusively silent,
What spins your wheels of time?
Dark Poet so patiently still and quiet,
What fills your grim, dark mind?

You seem so disturbed with words of death and pain,
Writing so fluently grim,
You sit in the cold with masochistic shame,
Writing by candle light dim,

Dark Poet of love and sorrow, greatly deep,
What tears inside your heart?
Dark Poet of solitude, a wolf among sheep,
What demons lay so tart?

You feel so deeply cold to the touch of flesh,
Writing to relieve thy soul,
You look so gaunt to the eyes of the fresh,
Writing to stay as whole,

Dark Poet so angry at life in your wake,
What lead you to feel this way?
Dark Poet of sadness, were you harmed so great,
What lead you so astray?

You write of depression and madness so vile,
Writing with lithium blood,
You write of darkness in life’s everyday trial,
Writing all that you could,

Dark Poet so unobtrusively silent,
What spins your wheels of time?
Dark Poet so patiently still and quiet,
Why are you still in my mind?

Written by Josh

The rule I made for this poem is the first and third line of every stanza must start with the same word and have about eleven syllables. The second and third line of every stanza must have about seven syllables and start with the same word. Also, every other stanza must mimic each other with the first words of each line. Also the lines have to rhyme.

The Traveling

Along the back stretch my eyes are torn. All I can see is a mesh of colors flying by, red, purple green, barely a distinction from one to the next. How fast am I going? I have no idea, but then again do I know anything? I look around to view my surroundings. Weird lines morph on the dark horizon. Constantly changing, as if doing a geometric dance; hyperbolas, parabolas, eclipsed, a few others but I can’t remember the names. I attempt to move my limbs, but the fast motion seems to restrain them, or do I even have limbs? I try to look down but willpower is to strong, I don’t dare look below. STOP! I suddenly stop and lose my balance. I fall forward through a cold mist. I try to stop my fall with my arms. Ah hah, I do have limbs, that’s a relief. I continue falling. It’s pitch black but I can feel cold air and colors rushing past my face. Then, SPLOOSH, my heavy body falls into cold placid water. I try to swim but my limbs won’t obey, they feel heavy and resistant. I start to sink, SWIM, SWIM. Pressure builds up, rapidly becoming worse. SWIM, I can’t, I can’t take it. My head pulses red, my chest burns…swim…breath…I…need…whoosh, I release my breath and cold soothing liquid fills my lungs. I continue to breath, and live. I now reside within a watery twilight, nothing but black sand and water in every direction. I then step forward and walk across the aquatic floor. My limbs move with hesitation, every step a force of will. My footsteps leave eerie black clouds in their wake. Movement to the right catches my eye. I look to see a family of blue-footed-boobies pass in front of me, waddling across the sand. I didn’t know they lived under water. I try to walk a little faster, then faster, and faster, and faster. Now I’m running but I feel the desire for more speed pull me forward, so I proceed to running on all fours, like an animal, no, I am an animal. My hands and feet grab at the sand digging into the earth. I can feel the water rippling over my velocity, now phenomenally fast. I run, like a wolf. I can feel the ground casually slanting upward. The surface of the water draws closer and closer. Finally, SPLASH, I pounce from beneath the water unto the dry, dark sand. I let out a terrifying roar as the built up wave crashes into my back. I stand strong hunched over like a predator, but my wrath and claws soon disappear. I glance back to view the water. It has a slight blue glow that lights up the cold dark. I then look up to view a morphing sky. Red, black, purple, black, blue, black, its dark clouds constantly shifting in shape and color. No light, no warmth, I again forcefully walk forward, up the beach which turns into wet grass. No shoes, just grass. I reach the top of a small hill and in the distance I see a small, bright, white, building. I take a step toward it and I’m there. A small man in white clothing is waiting at the window. He stares blankly forward as I approach. I get within an arms distance and the man slides me a white tray without even blinking an eye. Upon this tray there sit’s a white taco with white meat in a white wrapper with the word racecar written on the front. I take the tray and sit at a white picnic table to eat. “Palindrome”, I say. What a good taco this is. The meat is perfectly seasoned and the crunchy shell melts in my mouth. I finish my taco and walk into the nearest direction. As I cross the next mountain I see a demon like creature sitting on a stool next to a chess table. He motions for me to draw near. So I sit on the stool and with a single hand gesture he informs me that it is my turn. I contemplated for a while then made my move. No sooner than I took my hand off the piece the demon disappeared, but I knew in one years time he would return. I then began my journey again, without hesitation, because I knew what was soon to come…. To Be Continued.
